Recently I uninstalled the built-in thunderbird client in Ubuntu(not easy to update/maintenance), instead, I use the Linux version from their official site. It is quite annoying every time to open it through the terminal or file system, so I decide to make a launch icon for it.
Desktop environment: GNOME3
First, direct to:
then, create a desktop shortcut:
sudo nano thunderbird.desktop
Name[zh_CN]=Thunderbird #if system has multi-languages
Comment=Thunderbird Webmail Client
Exec=/.../thunderbird #use your own app directory
Icon=/.../thunderbird.png #use your own app directory
Icon[zh_CN]=/.../thunderbird.png #if system has multi-languages, or it will display as blank(support xpm,svg,png)
Terminal=false #terminal needed when launching
change the privilege and the icon will display in Launcher.
sudo chmod u+x /usr/share/applications/thunderbird.desktop
